Is anyone out there suffering trichotillomania?

Hi, I’m Bailey. I have been living with trichotillomania since Kindergarten. I am finishing up my 1st semester of my 8th grade year. I’m 14. I was 5 when I began pulling my eyelashes and eyebrows out. I’ve tried therapy, Zoloft, and I’m currently on Prozac. None have really helped. I have to wear a lot of eyeliner to hide my disorder. My parents are very strict about my education.. so I’ve been under a lot of stress. Adding onto that, my boyfriend moved a couple months ago. I live in Georgia, he lives in New York now.
Things have been very tough. My mom just keeps yelling and yelling at me. I feel like I have lost all self-control. I can’t really help my disorder. She doesn’t understand at all. I wonder what she would feel like if she was me…

Hi Bailey. I suffered from this when i was younger. I would pull my hair out until i had a big bald spot. My mom took me to a doctor. and a had to wear mittens all the time , so i wouldn’t pull my hair out. I know that sounds weird, but it actually worked. I stopped doing it because it was extremely difficult to pull my hair with mittens on. I’m sorry that your mom thinks yelling at you will help, it won’t. I know it’s hard to quit, but you really, truly have to want to get better, to be able to stop. If you tried therapy before and it didn’t work, try again. Sometimes going to a different therapist can be the key to success. I’ve went to therapy, and i tried 4 different ones, before i found somebody i was comfortable with. Don’t give up, you can beat this. You need to find something constructive to do when you feel stressed, and do that, instead of pulling your lashes and brows. And it sounds stupid ( but it works ), write down your thought on paper, instead of acting them out. I never thought that would help, but it does. Hang in there. Take care
